The Florida Director of the Agency for Workforce Innovation was a state executive position in the Florida state government. The director was the chief executive of the Agency for Workforce Innovation, the body that administered the state's workforce development and unemployment insurance programs.On October 1, 2011, the agency, along with the Department of Community Affairs and the Governor’s Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development, were all combined into the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.The last director was Cynthia Lorenzo, who was first appointed by former Governor Charlie Crist on June 10, 2009. She had served as interim director since February 2, 2009. As the director serves at the pleasure of the governor, Lorenzo was not subject to periodic reappointment.Before becoming director, Lorenzo was deputy director of the Agency for Workforce Innovation from February 2007 to February 2009. Prior to joining the agency, she was communications director and chief of staff at the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, where she also served as interim secretary. Earlier, she worked in communications for the Florida Department of Transportation. Lorenzo holds a bachelor's in business administration from the University of Denver
