Halle is the founder and chairman of the nation’s largest independent tire retailer, Discount Tire Company, an 800-store, 22 state empire with over $3 billion in annual sales revenue in 2010. Forbes ranked him as the 96th wealthiest person in America, with an estimated net worth of 3.4 billion dollars in 2011He opened his first store in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1960 and as the sole employee he was the tire technician, accountant, sign painter, toilet cleaner and customer service representative. Bruce would go on to expand, first across Michigan, then throughout Arizona and eventually to 20 other states..Discount Tire Co.He wed his childhood sweetheart, Gerry, but didn’t meet his firstborn (Bruce, Jr.) until six months after his birth, after Halle returned from the Marine Corps, where he served for three years during the Korean War.
