If you have no complications from your diabetes such as eye, blood vessel related or kidney problems and your diabetes is well controlled through diet or oral medication, you will be able to donate.If you require insulin to control your diabetes, please call Medical Services on 13 14 95 to discuss your eligibility.If, however, you are free from complications, your diabetes is well controlled and you have not used bovine (cattle-derived) insulin in the past, you will generally still be able to donate.Can Diabetics Donate BloodBlood donations are conducted on a drop-in basis, with the exception of platelet donations. Platelet donors must first be evaluated and approved for donation. Approved platelet donors may then make an appointment for this more intensive donation process.Can Diabetics Donate BloodThe blood donation process takes 30 minutes once the process begins. The actual blood donation takes five to 10 minutes. Platelet donation takes two hours, once the process begins.
