He was born Dale Ellis, but is better know to his legions of drag racing fans around the country as Chip. Chip has pursued his passion for two-wheeled speed since he was a young boy. At the age of 10 he won his first national event in bicycle racing. By his early teens motorcycles became his passion. Ellis’ career is diverse and exciting with numerous racing championships on local and national tracks.In 1998, Ellis joined the AMA Prostar all motorcycle Series and signed on as a factory-backed rider with Kawasaki Motor Corporation in 1999 where he successfully built, tuned, and raced many winning Kawasaki motorcycles. Chip’s intense, yet unflappable style coupled with his unique, all-around technical ability, serves him well in his quest for the “golden ring” – an NHRA national championship. Ellis was on a roll. In his first five years he won AMA/Prostar Championships in the 600 Super Sport, Funny Bike, and Formula Super Bike divisions. Chip set a Funny Bike record of 210.18 MPH in 2001. In 2004 he became the first rookie in NHRA Pro Stock motorcycle history to win a No. 1 qualification spot at his debut in the sanction at the venerable US Nationals in Indianapolis.
