Driver's licenses are valid for four years; after that, you must renew your license. The Driver License Division of the Alabama Department of Public Safety (DPS) allows you to renew your license 60 days before it expires, and even gives you a "grace period" of 60 days after it expires in which your license will still be valid.In addition to renewing your license every four years, you must also maintain a car insurance policy or some other acceptable alternative that meets the State's minimum coverage requirements.
