Shelby County Commissioner Chris Thomas is among a group of taxpayers who launched a social media campaign to fight a proposed half-cent sales tax hike."I'm not for this sales tax," said Thomas.  "We decided to put out a Facebook page because social media is very strong," he added. The "No More Sales Tax Shelby County" Facebook page is growing in support."It's like David versus Goliath," Thomas stated.  "The Stand for Children folks say they're going to raise $200,000.  I know they're working all the polls, they're running ads, they're putting stuff out in the mail," he said.Voters received a Stand for Children mailer over the weekend saying a countywide sales tax increase would put $30 million into schools for Pre-K and teacher training.Leaders supporting the tax hike include Memphis Mayor AC Wharton to Congressman Steve Cohen and the NAACP.Opponents say sales taxes hurt the poor most because they're not collected on a sliding scale."They're trying to lead them to believe it's going to Pre-K, when actually there's no guarantee of that.  You've even got school board members who say there is no guarantee of that.  It's taking money away from the municipalities and that's another big concern," stated Thomas.
